Okay, ya'll have me sitting here red faced and feeling ashamed.
I have to admit that I 'dry ball'... every time...YES, I AM A DRY BALLER! It's the only way I know to load, no one ever told me how to wet my balls and I have been too ashamed to ask :dunno:.

So please, tell me what ya'll wet your balls with?!? I Don't Want To Dry Ball Anymore!!
I like and use windshield wash solution on my patches to wet and lube my balls before loading. Works in summer or winter and one will never dry ball again. Now they may still forget the powder drop but no more dry balls ever again! 😄

Don’t tell anyone, but keep your balls in a jar of Ballistol until needed. Problem solved.

73 years old and shooting since I was 10. Never dry balled. A few years back I was up to shoot at a woods walk. Cap went off, rifle did not fire, tried another cap, still did not fire. The guys started laughing, "dry ball, dry ball." Put the ram rod down the barrel, turned to the crowd, "Didn't dry ball, just forgot to load it." Don't have Alzheimers, do have sometimers.
I’ve done that

Now that makes more sense then @TDM 's idea, if I soak my balls in Baristal too long they might begin to turn soft and squishy or possibly soak up too much in the microscopic pours and swell too big to fit down the barrel....

Wow, you old Mountain Goats around here sure do cook up some Whoppers!
Now where is that thread about soaking my breechclout in kerosene before heading to the range?? I'll get all this down right yet!

Not only have I dry-balled, I've done the awful thing that only a Whitworth shooter loading hexagonal bullets can do - cross-threaded the bullet, about four inches down the bore.

Twice.

Sad to say, on each occasion it was the first, and needless to say, last shot of the day. At least for me. So I scored and wind-watched for my betters and less ham-fisted.

Removing the stuck bullet required some engineering skills and some application of a just-under-bore long twist drill in a tap-holder - along with a swiftly whittled three-inch-long bore-guide to keep it straight. There was a mighty amount of sticking of the tongue out of the corner of the mouth ere it was all done. Basically, I drilled all the way through the bullet, and finagled a kind of barb of of stout brass wire to poke through the hole and catch the bottom edge and pulled it out buy putting the other end in a bench vice/vise and pulling on the rifle. It worked. I used to have a photo of it on my Whitworth file but right now I can't find it.

Yet another reason to shoot cylindrical bullets, eh?

Years ago I took a work buddy to the range to introduce him to cap n ball revolvers……longstory short I placed my 51 Navy colt into the loading cradle and got so involved showing him how the loading lever worked and explaining things I then proceeded to dryball all 6 !
Even smeared em with grease ! 🤦‍♂️

Got half a dozen dryballs all done at once 👍
…..never happened since 🤞
