Paid $17.97 for a stinkin pound of Goex today. Also, the lady tried to sell me a tin of RWS caps for $5.97. CCI, which work great, are still under $4.00 a tin. (If they aren't no more, don't tell me)

$17.97 is a "bargan", for single one pound cans, in my neck of the woods. The price on the RWS caps is about normal, and the CCI are closer to five bucks than four here. ::

Of course I can drive 80 miles (one way) and save a few dollars...if you call that a savings. :huh:

It's time to "bite the bullet", and call Coonies again, ya gotta have powder to shoot.

Russ

That's a drive, Russ, but at least ya got some scenery. Spose I should see if the booshway's got some layin around, last time he said it was $8.00 a pound.

Grafs' blackpowder is sellin' for $10/lb. with a $20 hazmat fee. Seems like if you bought 10 lbs. you'd only have $12.00/lb. plus shippin' and handlin'. That'd have to end up cheaper than what you're payin' in the stores. :front:

It's 43 miles one way to get real BP (Goex) @ $21 per pound so my heart bleeds for you at that highway robbing price!............... NOT!!!!!!! :crackup:

If you can get to a point where you can order it buy the case, it's really nice...you can get a case of Goex delivered to your door for $10/can...and they'll mix the cans in the case...4F+3F+3F, etc

I get mine from www.JJPyrotechnics.com (Moscow, PA)

wood - You must live out in the boondocks to have to drive that far. Bummer.

I know, I know. There's always somebody who's got a bigger beef!

I suppose some of the substitutes must be going for $20.00 plus, per pound, by now.

WOW!!!!
I get (got,, last fall) Goex 3Fg for $12.35/lb.
However, the CCI Magnums are $6.00/tin!
And I thought I was robbed. ::

I got a whole case of CCI Musket Caps for free, a few years back, before 9/11/2001. Seems the tin of CCI Musket Caps I bought at Wally Mart was some 20 caps short. Hey, I don't trust big business or take things for granted! Anyways, I contacted CCI to tell them what happen. About a week later, I get a call from our town's police department, asking me if I know anything about the package labeled expolsives in our mail box. Seems the delivery man didn't want to carry that package to the front door. Don't know why... Anyways I go out and see that the return address is from Blount International, who at that time I think owned CCI. Seems that to justify the cost of shipping and hazardous material fees they decided to send me a case of caps to replace the twenty I was shorted. Strange, but true!

Be thankful,around here where i live[east tn]i can't find goex anymore. Had to start shootin t-7

How do you guys store your powder? I've been tempted to get a case, but I'm not sure I want that much in the basement. I thought about buying a nice dogbox and putting a door on it, but then I'd worry about the summer heat breaking down the powder.

Storage can be a problem. Don't mind keeping smokeless in the house, as it's probably less hazardous than the average can of spray paint in a fire. BP is different, & prefer keeping the bulk of it outside; store it in a locked trailer. Does get hot, but BP doesn't degrade w/ heat (less'n it gets up to ignition temp, then it rapidly degrades) & actually ages rather well if not dampened. I've been buying it in 25 pound cases for years.

If I still lived in a town, would probably build a small ammo storage facility. And a lot of towns get real persnickity about 25 pounds of BP around in private hands. Can't be any hard & fast answers as there are way too many variables.

I just bought 10 lbs from Powder Inc. delivered to my door with hasmat fees was $11.50.
You can order in 5 lbs increments and mix the granulations sizes (in 1 lb cans). Overall pretty convenient and painless compared to having to hunt it down and then pay $15.00 per lb or more from retailers.

Regards, Dave

Buy an old refridgerator and use it for storage. Even in a fire the powder should be safe. After a lot of home fires firemen will find that the contents of the refrigerator are still cool. And for added security you can put a hasp and padlock on it.

It isn't often I get to gloat, so you can bet I'm taking my shot now!! :D

Got a flier two weeks ago, Goex at $6.50 per pound 'Course that's 50# in a bag, and it's close enough to drive, so there's no hazmat.

I say gloat! Congratulations! That's big news.

You alone, or ya gonna get somebody to go in with ya? I have shot 30 plus pounds by myself in a single year. That is not as much shooting as some might think. I'm sure there are some members here who shoot at least that much, and many who shoot more......either way, it ain't gonna go bad on ya, if you can it up.

Good find.

Russ

Russ, it's yer birthday? Well Happy Birthday to ya. So how many different centuries does this make that you have had a birthday in.?:crackup:

I've been buying Goex thru the mail in 25 pound case lots for five or six years. I shoot ten or twelve pounds a year. Storage has never been a problem. I usually pay between nine and ten bucks a pound delivered. Have paid as much as eleven. A small story-started in muzzleloading in the winter of 1976 thru my favorite uncle. GOD REST HIS SOUL. I came across some BP that he had obtained around that time. I shoots as good as what I bought last month. You should be able to find plenty of BP on line. If a case is too much for your wallet, get with a few of your shooting pals and split one. Good Luck! :m2c: :thumbsup:

I keep it out of harms way in the climate controlled setting of a storage room in my house...still in it's original heavy cardboard shipping carton.

If you think about it, a 25Lb case of Goex leaves a Goex plant and goes through all sorts of handling and transfers to make it to a major Goex distributor;

Then you order it, and it's handled all over again, loaded onto trucks, driven to airports, unloaded and loaded onto airplanes, unloaded and loaded back onto trucks, delivered to distribution centers, tossed onto a local route delivery truck, driven around town, and finally dropped off on your front porch, etc, etc...all in it's original cardboard carton.

Seems like it must be pretty stable to go through all that
