Russ, it's yer birthday? Well Happy Birthday to ya. So how many different centuries does this make that you have had a birthday in.?

:hmm: Weeel....let's see now....it seems like just yesterday, me and ol'Joe Meek, we wuz dis cussin how much powder we had, and how we were gonna store what we done stole at da voo.

Ol' Joe didn't understand anything about that refrigerator thing...kept insisting on a cache, but I never like to put me plunder in a cache, somebody might come along and steal it! :front:

Birthday's just might make Jack a dull boy, but it sure as heck beats the alternative.

Thanks fellers, for the very warm greetings :haha:

It's not so much the handling of it that bothers me, it's the fact that one day my house my catch fire and some fireman is going to kick the door open and realize he's standing beside 25 pounds of black powder that's about to go up. I'm not sure there'd be much difference with 5 pounds either, but it makes me nervous.

If my house catches fire I'm going to have to argue with the insurance company about whether or not it is a total loss or just a partial. If the fire gets to the big gray cabinet in the garage, won't have to argue. I always told my kids "If the house catches fire, get you out and let it burn. If the garage catches fire, get out and run like hell." :haha:

As a career firefighter, I and my crew thank you for that thought. Right now I'm storing about 20 pounds in my garage. I consider it less of a worry than the 5 gallons of gas for my lawnmower.

What you can do is post an NFPA 704 sticker at each entrance to your powder storage area (garage, shed, etc). We trigger on these like hawks on movement.

According to the <<MSDS>> for black powder, you would put a 3 in the red diamond for black powder, and leave all others blank. This would let us know to be careful without being overly cautious. Full explanation of NFPA 704 warning

I've got a question,.... anybuddy know what extra precautions dur'n the ship'n and handle'n of blackpowder warrants the "hazmat fee"??

Last time I recieved a case of blackpowder by UPS, it was boxed simular and delivered side-by-side in the same truck as the maple syrup my wife ordered. (No "hazmat fee" for the maple syrup tho :hmm: )

No special handling.

It's just a kitty set up for when it's raining and the Brown Guy takes his smoke break while sitting on the boxes in the back of the van.

New roof and flowers for the widow, etc. (You notice they have a semi-transparent fiberglass "blow-away" roof?)

Fillmore -Just curious, why a 3? Blackpowder doesn't have a flashpoint under 100 degrees.

Boy, I hope not. We have a couple days each August where we might all spontaneously combust hereabouts! Heck, Zonie would spend half the summer pickin up pieces of his butt that the horn blew off when it cut loose.

I guess I shouldn't drink a double scotch before posting. I picked Toner powder? I would only rate BP as a 2.

BTW, we consider UPS trucks to be some of the most dangerous on the road. You never know what is in them. That and old Toyota pickups with a hand-lettered "Joe's Pool Maintenance" on the side.
