My Lyman GPR is Laser Engraved Middleton, CONN on top and on side of the Barrel, Made In Italy. It's a great gun for the money and a price point that allows someone to get into Muzzleloaders shoot and experience hunting for some that might not be able to experience. Although Italian craftsmanship is not what once was, one thing the virus has exposed is Italy has 200,000 Chinese immigrants living in Italy, manufacturing Italian goods for the world. I am currently building a custom flintlock and have talk to several companies that make USA parts but they are on hold because can't get their raw materials since December which makes me wonder if they are not dependent on their materials outside the USA. I am not dime-ing anyone out it is what it is. Long Rifles are American as Apple Pie and the hand made craftsmanship gives me hope for our future, so Italian muzzleloaders bring in more people to sport I am all for it. You can't be afraid of competition. It's like restaurants. You build one restaurants it has so many customers. You have multiple cluster of different restaurants studies have shown they will have more customers than they would have individually.

Odd that folks here are dissing Italian flintlock and percussion rifles. Since they often place 1, 2 and 3 in the world rankings in the MLAIC comps, they can't ALL be carp.....
I have nothing bad to say about Italian guns, just watch that Pedersoli factory tour. They make a great product at a fair price. The technology is there and the hand craftsmanship is there. Italian gun makers were way up on my short list for comercially available period correct reproductions.

I’ve often thought a five shot .50 or .54 caliber cap and ball revolver would be really cool. I’m surprised no custom outfit in the US has made one.

Just trying to offer some idea of what it would cost to have custom revolver made....single-shot rifles and handguns are one thing, but a custom revolver? Has anybody in the USA ever offered their gunsmithing services to scratch-build a custom revolver from raw materials?

Yep spend $4,000 to go out in the Pa flint lock season? Might as well say don't come to work unless you are in a cadillac. All this buy American stuff is nice, but. current Italian stuff is proof tested. There is an inherent distrust of American muzzle loaders in Europe because they must be proof tested. So order an American made custom muzzle loader, pay whatever exorbitant import tax there is, pay the government lab fee for proof testing and if it fails (at least a few have) the purchaser is out thousands of dollars for nothing. The only recent American "made for hunting" muzzle loader is the accusporter for around $900 or a thousand. Americans are welcome to make a decent muzzle loader for the masses. Even TC had significant problems and stopped honoring their life time warranty a year or so ago. 23 or 24 years ago, they refused to fix my Patriot pistol under warranty when a lock internal crumbled. They said no parts, can't. No parts wasn't my problem but theirs. Buy American is kind of a ignorant thing to say when the only American goods would price most people out of the market. So go buy an American made flat screen TV with American parts, An American made car with no foreign parts (LOL) etc.
