I know a lot of the fellows have worked up clothing/capotes from these blankets. I just received two, as well as a Dutch pup tent, from CTD. I don't know if I can bring myself to cut up the pup tent for the canvas, but I am determined to make something out of one of the blankets. What have you fellers and gals used these for?

Call and ask for British white -- much better and not much more. They rarely have them and hey sell very quickly. Our group bought most of the last batch.

No tan stripe to give you away.

I have made numerous capotes out of the Italian blankets. I have also made blanket shirts, leggings, gun sleeves, and even belt bags. I really like these blankets. They are very tight weave, and they make a durable garment. Best of all, they're cheap.

Because they are as tight as they are, they make a great pair of leggings (Nice mutted woodsee coloring). They hardly pick up anything from the brush and they don't "pill up" as bad as trade blanket wool. I've also made a haversack and a pair of mits from mine.

I agree, a great buy for the money. I made blanket case's for my flinters from them.

The best surplus 100% wool blanket I have ever found came from eastern Europe, (Czech?) so tight of weave to be almost water proof. Extra large & very heavy, was worth every cent of the 17 bucks each.

I have three of those Italian blankets and they are great. I am thinking of making a winter coat for when I live where there is a winter.

I thought about making leggings from them but they would itch like hell. Someone here mentioned soaking them in hair conditioner to stop the itch. Anyone tried that on these? What else do you do to stop the itchy itch? :curse: No pantyhose please, I know the SEALS used 'em with jeans, but they aren't pc :nono:

Here in Pa in the winter all I wear is wool pant. to stop the itch I wear long johns under them. Oh ,if someone says you panty's are not PC then they are looking to hard to find something to pick at and beware of them types...... ROFL

Even with longjohns , I can't wear wool. I get a terrible rash. I break out every time I'm near the stuff. :nono:

Pantyhose hey, well tis a thought. I once wore silk underalls when I had to do a lot of horse backing in steep up and down country.

Those Italian blankets are pretty darned warm and well made.We have 4 of them and they are heavy.
BTW pantyhose will keep chiggers out.My wife tried it at the advice of a friend down in Oklahoma and it works.

Underalls? I've seen underoos, Spiderman no less.
The panty hose are good for horse ridin', but seem to chill my legs, I gave up on 'em. I'll have to try them silkys, I know my wife likes 'em. :hmm:

We got home the other day and my wife said "I can't wait to get these panty hose off." I told her that I had often had the same thought myself. :sorry:

Around the hunting camp fire one night a crusty and rough old guide divulged he wore silk underalls. Some of the dudes may have thought about laughing, but none did. :shocking:

Silk is also one of natures greatest insulators.

I have been thinking about making me a caped hunting shirt out of one. I made one out of some very light wool but it just was not warm enough when out hunting! I have one of the blankets so I guess I'll have a go at it.
