Just wanted to share some pics of Nathaniel - my .50 Jacob Dickert longrifle - with you all. Nathaniel was made nearly 40 years ago, and still has as sharp a tongue as ever...snappy ignition and wonderful accuracy.

The rifle was made by Michael Seidelman, using an L&R lock...

I have been rubbing in the stock with Ballistol after each hunt and shooting session... do any of you have some experience using boiled linseed oil instead, giving the stock a good protective coating? Mark Baker mentions it in his "Pilgrim's Journey" volume 2, and made me curious...

I love that mellow pumpkin color. What an heirloom!

Smollett.

I would not use linseed oil, boiled or not. It can turn rancid after awhile. In fact I don't use anything on my guns, including one that is about Nathaniel's age.

That is a very nice rifle, well cared for and you should be very proud of it.

Nathaniel is really nice particularly for the period in which he was made. How many deer has he brought home over the years?
