Plan on going this October for the first time just wondering what to expect as far a vendors, demonstrations and shooting events go.

This is from their web site:

October 25-26 ”” American Fur Trade Rendezvous. 10am-4pm, Boulton. Living history encampment, blacksmithing, colonial cooking, black-powder shooting, Pennsylvania Longrifle Museum and John Joseph Henry House tours.

Stink! Figures something cool and it is a work weekend, I got to quit this stupid working thing it just gets in the way.

It is a small event with okay shooting. The museum is worth seeing with a good number of origional rifles. They have a hawk and knife throw and a archery shoot. The cooler weather of late October should make it a better event.

RiverRat...Any vendors? The hawk throw, shooting and archery are they actual events held at certain times or general areas setup for people to use as they wish?

Thanks...Mike

Afternoon Mike, the shooting contests and archery are all schedualed events the hawk n knife is pretty much open all the time. October should have 150 to 200 people show up normally but with fuel prices the amount of people has dropped some. The event helps keep the homestead n museum running and there are a great bunch of people. I met RR this past June n had fun shooting the bow with him around. The fall(oct.)event will be tring to strech out the times a bit actually starting Thursday n ending Sunday with the public allowed in on the weekend. as for venders it is usually hit n miss, not a ton of people so not to many venders ,usually, but who knows there have been several show up in the past(6 or7). actually the museum is worth the price all by itself, they have a great selection of weapons from the area as well as acoutriments that go along with them, wood is generally good quality, water on site, plenty of portajons, fairly flat ground to set up yer canvas. All in all a nice event come fall, oh yea they have stuff for the kids too, pumkin carving, trick or treat n such. come on out n join us YMHS Birdman

Birdman...Thanks for the info :hatsoff: I plan on attending and having a great time.

Mike

Yep, everything Birdman said. I have a yellow "Don't Tread On Me" flag hanging from my tent, please stop by and say hello.
Hey Birdman, I am still waiting for something to move into to the gourd bird houses I made. They look pretty cool though :hmm: See you at Jacobsburg.

RR I doubt very much you'll see anything in the gourds this year but keep an eye on them during the winter, surpiseing enough ya may see a Chickadee or titmouse going in n out, useing it for a winter shelter. Come spring though something should check them out, if ya notice them all filled with small thin sticks n only one being used ya most likely got a jenny wren in it, the males will fill any likely spot another bird can nest(in a cavity) to defend the food sorces in their territory. I usually just pull the sticks out n dump them on the ground(course I know what different nests look like). Good to hear from ya n string up that bow cause I'm gonna beat yer pants off come October haw haw haw.

Hello Birdman and RiverRat. See ya'll in oct. No need to put a string on either of ya'lls bows cause I'm bringing mine with me. See ya'll soon.

I'll be setting camp on Tuesday or early(they don't mind but the hooters don't show up till later) Wednesday. Early set up is "officially" thursday(I beleive) n some events are going to try to be run then so more people can participate with the extra day. I know its tuff to get time off for some but when do you guys expect to hit camp? yea you ol jersey blueberry eaten crab crawler just bring it on :blah:

hello all......looking at the jacobsburg website, it's kinda vague whether anyone can camp or whether you have to be a member of some sort. Can someone enlighten me? Now......the IT nazis at work block this site so I prolly won't be back until next weekend.....but thanks in advance.

Fiddler

Fiddler no you don't have to be a member of any sort to participate. Now the Jacobsburg sociaty would love if ya joined cause that gives them a bit more money to work with each year but it is in no way a requirement to attend. There are two events at the site each year, one in June around Fathers Day n the other in the fall usually last week of Oct around Halloween. Both are nice events with plenty to do. Hope to see ya there, I been attending for , wow, well its been a bunch a years ,over 10 or 12 at least, n always had a great time. Even when the weather tried to dampen er freeze yer spirits, several other gents from the forum have attended n I hope they chime in ta let ya know I ain't pullen yer leg hee hee. I go by the name of Birdman year around so iffen ya show up, ask around for me, most folks there will know who yer talking about n run in my direction. that or just look for the ugliest long hair fat guy with glasses n a mustache ya ever laid eyes on n ya most likely picked me out

thanks for the info Birdman. With gas what it is and being way out in Ohio, the EPR's not looking good this year and Blue Ridge isn't having their October Primitive so............I need one last rondy fix before winter. Now........as for your description.......it seems like you just described 90% of the men and a goodly % of the women at any given rendezvous.....
