I have a couple of 62 caliber flint lock Jaegers rifles. I am just looking to see what loads other shooters use in these size guns. One local guy said he only uses 50 grains and another said he use 90 to 110 grains behind a patched round ball. Looking for a load that will work for both target shooting and hunting whitetail. Thanks so much for your help.

I have just such a rifle, and use 110 grains of Swiss ffg under the ball. I hunt in a grizzly recovery area, and hunt elk, so I like a somewhat heavy charge. For both hunting and shooting, I would guess that 90 grains would be about right, in a .62"

possible 80, but I'd not go lower than that in that large a bore.

I have rifles in .60 and .62. I use a .595 ball in both with a .023 heavy canvas patch. Loads easy and fills the deep grooves. One barrel is a Hoyt and the other is a Rice. 85-90gr. of 2f works fine for whitetail. I tried more but decided I didn't need the recoil for the local game.

No one has mentioned rate of twist. What those, or any, rifle works best with is highly dependent on the ROT. Slower the rate the higher the charge that will be required for optimum accuracy. Any other approach is nothing but guess work.
