Hey thanks for all the input! I'd love to have a few of tracks rifles they have for sale but they are sadly well out of my price range. I'm going to call a couple of the other vendors mentioned on monday and see if any have walnut. Has anyone built a Chambers kit? How much inletting nedds to be done in comparison to TOTW or others? I am fairly handy mechanically but have done little woodwork other than refinishing a stock or two.

How would this kit fit the 1750-1760 range? It has gemanic influence, http://www.cabincreek.net/pa_mountain_rifle.html

Once again we are grateful for all the help, my 10yr old daughter is chomping at the bit to start developing her persona....of course she is trying to figure a way to have her own flintlock too..

The Friendship matches end on Sunday. Don't know if Tip will be back by Monday. Might need to give him a couple extra days.

These Cabin Creek kits are OK but the Pa. Mtn rifle doesn't look as early as they say, probably late 18th century and it is a kit. The Chambers kits are the very best available but they are designed for the professional or highly experienced amateur maker. You might look at earlyrusticarms.com. you can get finished,in the white,or kits at very competitive prices.
