Hello, I'm Marc, and am new to this forum. I have acquired a matchlock, signed by the smith INOUE KANZAEMON SAKU TOSHITSUGU. I would appreciate any help you could provide about this gunsmith, as I have nothing to go on. I am interested in where he was from, and what time period he worked in. The matchlock can be seen at http://www.sho-shin.com/mat6.htm. If you can recommend a good text in English about japanese gunsmiths, I would be grateful. Thank you for your time.

A very good book on Japanese matchlocks is "The Japanese Matchlock-A Story of the Tanegashima" , written by Shigeo Sugawa.
He is considered an authority on the Japanese match lock, and he´s been shooting them for years.
He would probably also know about the smith, who built your gun.
