Definitely something I had considered. I'd say no more than a bundle about the barrel diameter size. Seat then on the charge and hope for the best.

Kinda gives new meaning to the term "nailed him" don't it? :rotf:

I seriously doubt that any sane mountain man would load his rifle with nails--even if he actually happened to have some in his possibles bag for some reason. :v

I always wondered that myself. What the heck were they carrying a bunch of nails around for!?

I knew Tri Robinson the history teacher personal
ly and that was his story as he followed the deal
from the beginning to the end. There was a problem
with Utah wanting the burial there and he had to
re-route to keep them from taking over the ?re-
mains? which was just a pile of dirt, rotted wood
and a couple bones. That is why a cement truck was
there to make sure he stayed in Wyoming. The kids
contacted NBC and NBC put pressure on a Congress-
man and he contacted Tri giving him a short notice
to get it done.......I was given a piece of the
casket for a souvenir...That pretty well covers
it....from my side..

Nails where valuable item back in the day, so much so that buildings where sometimes burnt to recover them. If a man didn't have lead I think the next choice would be gravel or pebbles :nono: . While hard on a barrel that might be a good way to clean the bore up a little :shocked2:

My grandfather told me of useing pebbles .gravel or bits of horse shoe nails for hunting rabbits and sage hens as a kid circa 1900 I have the gun and from the looks of the bore I have no reason to doubt his stories, the gun is an Austrian import caplock, military, originaly with sling which is gone the bayonet is still with it,
