I was lured to the Jim Kibler Flintlocks websites (they had two then) and after considering and watching his YouTube videos, I bit the bullet and ordered the .45 caliber Southern Mountain kit.
That was in February. I was patient (you really have to be) and on Saturday, May 15th, it arrived. Over the space of the next month, I worked on it a little at a time. I now have this.

The stock had Aqua Fortis applied then heated, Permalyn Sealer applied. Brass Blackening solution was used on the metal parts. I wanted a worn finish look to the metal. Originally I was going to get a walnut stock and make it dark, but the photos on the website made me go for Maple. I just ordered the standard maple and was amazed at the striping I got. That was the first time I had maple for any gun stock. To say I am pleased is a gross understatement.
The only downside to this is my local gun club facilities. Our outdoor shooting range was not made with long rifle loading in mind. The ramrod hits the ceiling if I don't severely angle the gun!
My first group was 1-3/4 inches at 25 yards. So far it has been the only group since I had to order some things to shoot and clean the gun. One of these days I will get back to shooting it. Actually, I really can't wait.

The Doc is out now.

So, did you go with the barrel and lock in the white?

No. I put brass blackening solution on the barrel and the lock. The lock did not color as good as the barrel and the barrel did not color as good as the trigger guard, thimbles and butt plate. However, in person, it looks like an old worn finish.

The Doc is out now.
