I have a Jukar kentucky pistol (caplock), and I am wanting to convert it to a flintlock. How sould I go about removing the drum?

Jukar's were made in Spain (I think in the 1970's) and are very simular to the early CVA guns, with the drum-hole drilled thru the barrel and into the counter-bored breechplug.

Alto it was stongly advised to never attempt to remove the breechplug,.... remove'n the drum isn't a problem, it should jest unscrew.

The drum hole probly has metric threads, and the CVA vent-liner will probly screw back in.

I'm guess'n a CVA flint lock will also fit the Jukar percussion mortise.

You can anneal the temper from a metric set screw and drill it with a touch hole for a vent liner. Works pretty good with an allen head wrench. I've done several that way.

You would do well to look into an L&R replacement lock from one of the better suppliers instead of the CVA flintlock. You will probably have to adjust the inlet a bit anyway and the replacement will be a better lock. Would probably at least have a bridled tumbler. Cost is not that much different.

Do you have any pic's you could post or email to me?

:imo: A better lock here is akin to putting a 500 dollar saddle on a twenty dollar horse.

I agree with tanstaafl! I used my $35 Jukar to practice on. I filled the RR hole with a glued in wood dowel and redrilled it in the proper place, also larger for a proper wooden RR. I made the RR for it. I narrowed down the lock and sideplate panels. I inlet the lock in deeper to further slim it, I had to bend the hammer a little for this. The panels are now about 1/4" wide, I narrowed the foreend down to 1/16". I left the brass sideplate proud about half the thickness of the plate and beveled the edge to blend it in. I might do some more shaping of it and eventually I will practice engraving on it. I cut the foreend down on the bottom side cutting halfway through the RR hole giving it some contour. I then made a brass RR pipe out of sheet brass and installed it. There isn't enough room for a nosecap or a RR entry pipe, it just isn't long enough. I cut the front dovetail for a front sight and I am in the process of making the sight. I have also started to do some carving on the grip behind the lock panel but I put that on hold as it wasn't going very well. I need to change my technique and practice on a hunk of wood first before continuing on the gun. I also experimented with some stain but I am not happy with it and I will try something else when I am done carving on it. I have contoured around the front of both side panels and I plan on carving in a moulding along the RR channel. I've actually had a lot of fun destroying a $35 gun but it is actually turning out really nice. I haven't majorly screwed anything up yet except maybe the carving but I can still fix that. I have really taken a LOT of wood off of this gun and I haven't even touched the grips yet. Does anyone have a $35 jukar they want to get rid of??? ::

I'v got a $35. Jukar .45 Flinter that I built back in the late '70's. That little Spanish lock fires every time. It's easy on flints and, by the way, a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. And, no, it's not for sale! :results:

I,ve got an old CVA flintlock, just the lock that I'll sell ya for $20, and I'll pay post on it if you're interested. It's been sitting in a drawer in my garage for twenty years, took it out a couple weeks back, soaked it in kerosene, and wire brushed the rust off it but it still functions good. Pm me if you are interested Bill
