I picked up a Jukar BP pistol:

I am interested in loading data. I have never had one of these pistols and could use some help on loading it. Thanks.

That is an early model colonial pistol from the days before a drum and nipple was used
judging by my old cva catalogs, about mid 1970s
20 to 25 grains and a patched 440 round ball
it should have a metal ramrod.
I would build a ball starter with an 8 inch dowel with jag on the end to use instead

I shot 15 grains of FFFg goex in mine. With a .440 ball Did ok. Don't shoot it with out hearing plugs! That thing was loud with that short barrel

Basically, it's a modern version of an early Victorian, percussion pocket or coat pistol. Lot of us older shooters started out playing with the ones CVA sold for years. As with the Kentucky and other CVA products, we may have moved on to something fancier but that didn't make those guns any less fun or effective.

Thanks for the replies. I picked it up at a swap meet for a song ($25). Can't wait to shoot it. It will go great with my TC Seneca, also in .45 cal.

The sights will have it shooting very high. Two fixes for that, either file down the rear sight or replace the front sight with something taller. I have two of the later versions and they are fun and accurate guns once you get the sights figured out. You did very well to pick up such a clean pistol for only $25, I'm envious.

I think you'll find that 15-25 gr. will suit your fancy. Yeah you could put 40 gr. in there and rock your world but that gets old fast.

A GF had the flint version she kept as part of her personna -- a girl, and even the old lady, needs to be armed in the colonies ya know. Especially when she's an insane 1/4 English, 1/4 German (probably Jewish), 100% Scot. I preserved it for her and it was fine as a piece of gear she wasn't as interested in shooting (and it IS a Jukar after all) as having in her kit...
