Later model cva colonial pistol
regularly bring $70 to $100 on gunbroker depending on condition.

the earlier model used a bolster instead of a drum and nipple with a lesser quality lock . The earlier models bring 20% less

Yous ay junk like it is a bad thing. I have had lots and lots of fun with junk. If the price is right, and you have the time, junk can be great fun. You can't really ruin junk now can you?

Have a couple of those pistols and they are good shooters. Biggest draw back is the way too short front sight which either needs to be replaced or the rear sight needs to be filed very low. Once that is worked out its an accurate little gun.

Well I'm one of those guys that just has to be fixing something. What I like about the pistol is the size. I have a big "Hawken" type with a 10" barrel but it is a bear to carry around. The Juker is a lot smaller and I sort of like the looks. I would re-stock it (I already have the wood). One thing I wouldn't want to do is replace the drum. That was my main concern, if they went "boom" reliably when you pulled the trigger.
If I did replace the drum (it seems sort of small) how big a job is it? On some guns it is my understanding changing the drum is a big deal.

I've got a Jukar "Philadelphia Derringer" I put together from a CVA kit several decades ago. It shoots .. and that's the best thing I can say about it. (It's really a piece of junk.) :td:

Mine shoot very reliably with the drum. If you're concerned about it reliably going boom than stick with real black powder instead of substitutes though mine shoot fine with the subs. I wouldn't monkey with the drum, just regulate the sights and enjoy.

Actually, the pistol pictured looks to be a very clean factory finished gun with the barrel finish removed. If the lock functions well and the bore is OK when you check with a bore light, then I would say it's a very good deal. If no corrosion, the Spanish barrels are quite good, and don't listen to those who say otherwise. Looks like all you may want to do is refinish it to your liking. What makes you think you may have to remove the drum? One thing you don't want to do is monkey around with a CVA drum....they use a proprietary system that interlocks the drum and breech plug. Very strong but a bear to work on. All in all it is a budget pistol with a budget lock, but they feel good in the hand and are a hoot to shoot. Oh, and expect to pay more than $30.

Yeah, the guy is asking more than $30. The drum seems to be of a smaller than normal diameter but maybe I'm wrong about that. I asked the question because somewhere in the back of my mind was an issue about jukars. On the drum, that was my concern- I knew that on a CVA style the drum got involved with the breech plug and it was a complicated matter to work on them. I'm still trying to get the guy to adjust the price.

I bought a Jukar years ago for $15. They shot it in the white and left it, so needed allot of work. It turned out real good though. The parts on yours are the same as the CVAs and the parts are worth more than $30 now adays.

parted out on Ebay the Jukar pistols are worth about $120-/+

Thanks CL on that. What I'm looking at the guy wants $90 which compared to a new gun is cheap but I still thought was a little high priced.

If the bore is as clean as the rest of the pistol then I think $90 is reasonable. It looks like a clean kit gun that hasn't had the bluing done. If you can talk him down to $80 that's great but I wouldn't walk away from it for $10.
