I picked up a few of the vintage CVA starter kits off eBay to get a few accessories for our restart in BP. The first two were in good shape and one of them was still in the shrink-wrap.
The last one I picked up said in the description, "Looks complete and unused sold as found." Well, I could see from the photos that this description might be a bit generous. However the items in the kit looked usable and it was not expensive so I bid on it and got it on its way to me.
Here is where the adventure begins. When it arrived I opened the package and took a look at what was in there. I picked up the green loaders and noticed that they were loaded with a ball, patch, and BP. They also had caps in the holders. I picked up the flask and well wadda ya know, it is over half full of powder....
Looks unused, eh.

I bought a kit like that off of ebay really just for the Lyman flask. It came with a tin of caps too. This was when they were impossible to get a year or so ago. Obviously shipping caps or primers via USPS is a no no but I think in these cases the sellers honestly do not know.

Don’t use that patch lube with black powder. My experience with it decades ago was not good, seems like it is petroleum based and did not get along with the BP residue.
I might still have some of the CVA caps in the turquoise plastic containers.

I'd be very, very leery of the powder unless it was in a sealed, factory container. No telling what the previous guy did to "enhance" ignition. Caps are probably fine though. I'm surprised it got shipped with no hazmat hassle.
