Folks:

I was trying to describe how many everyday sayings came from origins in the Muzzleloading / Flintlock rhealm recently. I couldn't get beyond:

Flash in the Pan
Lock Stock and Barrel

Needless to say, I lost what little credibility I had...

Help me out & post some more. If not obvious add a definition.

Thanks

Tonka

That kind of fizzled out. :winking:

Guess we were firing with blanks. We need someone who's a ramrod to keep us on target. Or at least someone ramrod straight. As long as he doesn't have a hair trigger. Shoot. I guess we need to draw a fine bead and hit closer to the mark.

And I don't remember ever calling anyone a touchhole. :haha:

Mud hooks = feet
Gully washer = flood or hard rain
To go in cahoots with
Airline = as the crow flies = bee line

If you fail at a task,"pick your flint and try again" A fairly common saying in the mountains of North Georgia and Western North Carolina 60 or so years ago when I was a kid. Wonder if "flint" shouldn't have been "vent", however :hmm:.
