Just finished my 3rd build, and I'm glad to be done. This one fought me the whole way through. The barrel is a Colerain 36"x7/8 .45 caliber. I inherited the siler lock and some other parts from a builder who passed away just this past year. I'm looking forward to shooting the rifle cobbled together with some of his parts at his memorial shoot next month! The brass furniture came from Reeves, and a few other parts from Track. I did make the brass 2 piece muzzle cap. The wood was colored with aqua fortis and trans tint dye then finished with Chambers oil. My goal was to build a slightly shorter rifle with a little weight at the muzzle for freehand shooting out of a tree stand, and I'm happy with the outcome. Thanks for looking. Tony

Nice Tony!!
It looks great. It was great meeting you at Dixon's and drawings are coming very soon. I have been focusing on that American-made musket stocked in maple. It needs to be done before end of October. My brother enjoyed meeting you too. I think he's hooked again on muzzleloaders.

Thanks Dave, I enjoyed you and your brothers company as well.

Yeah you sort of get in to a groove of working on it at night all the time, and when there isn't anything to do, you miss it. On the other hand, when you spend all your time building, you sort of forgo the shooting and use of them because you want to press to get to the finish line. It's somewhat of an either / or thing. Hard to do both. Enjoy it for awhile. You'll be huddled over the bench soon enough. If you have the parts laying around, that's the siren that draws you back to the chisels isn't it? Hard to just abandon $300-$400 worth of parts and say you're done with building.
