I believe this book has been commented on before in our muzzleloading forum, but I’d like to add another vote of approval for it. It’s scholarly but engaging and the author obviously did his research and understands his subject matter.

The few paragraphs in the conclusion regarding the Trent Affair and the subtle British troop deployments into Canada is certainly thought provoking and might make some believers in American Exceptionalism, apoplectic.
How different things might be nowadays had cooler heads not prevailed.
