The weather here (SE Indiana) has been freakishly warm, so of course now the local rays of sunshine (pun intended) have switched from griping about the cold, to griping that the current pleasantness (by January terms) can't possibly last, and that we'll have to get slammed extra-bad to balance out the nice days. God save me from ever getting to where I believe all good things carry with them their own equally bad punishment.
Oh well. My niece and I went out yesterday to do something I'd promised her as a spring project -- we set up a short trailwalk course, then shot it twice. The kid's fifteen and more than busy enough with sports, keeping her grades up, her friends, and most everything else that her age group tends to get sucked into, that she could legitimately plead "too busy" and never give her rifle a second glance -- plus, a couple of her friends ride her pretty hard about how bad and dangerous guns and shooting are -- but she'll drop anything she doesn't have an ironclad commitment to, to spend a couple of hours burning powder.
She's one small part of the future we don't have to worry about. Teaching her to shoot included teaching her, also, that there are those who want to take guns and shooting away from us, and the brat's made it plain she ain't having any of that.
Anyway, the trailwalk was a blast. Only drawback to it is, the kid scores often enough that I foresee staying way too busy, making/repairing targets.
