When the ball leaves the barrel of a smoothbore it will most likely be the same as this barrel, a " nuckleball" . However what is not being able to be controlled is the slight casting imperfections. Each shot could be slightly different due to the uniformity of the ball being different, thus having different pressures going down the barrel, results in a slight "curve" ball. The straight rifling, to me, will help keep each shot more uniform as it expands and locks into the rifling groves. Sounds plausible to me.

Thanks for the info. Please let me know when you use it if you feel you get a better pattern. Are you shooting shot or a LB or both like I intend to do.

Hey guys, the gun is finished and shoots very well. I'm on a pie plate at 100 yards and harvested my first gobbler with #6 shot out of this straight riffled barrel! Yahoo...

That is very good news. I have been wondering about this thread and it doesnt help that turkey season is here so has me thinking more--since I haven't even seen a turkey yet this year in the wild.

Hey buddy, come up to TN and hunt with me. Yesterday I had 12 long beards and 15 other birds all doing a dance in a 15 acre field in front of me yesterday! Blessed to be in this area for spring gobblers! I used 65 grains 2F, over powder card, 1/2" under shot lubed felt wad, 1 3/8 oz #6, over shot card. Seems to best load for my barrel. Not the pattern of my Benelli but much more fun!

If I only could get away with it. My work schedule allows it, but SWMBO doesn't. Go figure. Maybe someday. Goes both ways by the way, but in my area the hunting is very good for coyote, deer, and hog. Dove is good some years, and terrible others.
