Well people, I finally did it. I just ordered a Kibler SMR, in .32 cal. I built an TC hawkens kit gun in the 70"s. It wasn't that hard. Pretty easy kit. 50 Cal. But this time I will take my time and do my best. I have about 2 to 4 month wait. But that's ok, I'll be getting all the necessary things I need for it. I might need your members help a little. Thanks for all of you for being here.

Atta smart feller. Take your time. Each individual piece you assemble should be treated as it’s own build. Go slow and in the end you’ll have a gun to be proud of. Start researching what you’re going to use and how you’re going to apply your stock and metal finish. Watch Jim’s YouTube videos. Go as historically correct as you can on the finish and you’ll have a gun worth more than you paid for it. Don’t be tempted to do something weird to “make it your own”. Jim’s done the hard part already. Pics or it didn’t happen. Congrats.

I hope you get it in 2 - 4 months; I've been waiting for mine for 8 months now!

You will be very pleased with it. I have 2 Kibler SMR's. A 36 and a 45. Love them both.

All reports are that the Kibler requires no more significant work than the sand and assemble varietals. And there is less wood to remove. The difference is that you start out with architecture that is closer to correct. Jim says that he left enough wood to do significant raised carving though.

You are correct Colonel.

Years ago I built a .45 smr in cherry, that swamped bbl is SO light and perfectly balanced that my bud calls it “the Toothpick”

Add that fast Chamber’s Late Ketland lock
and I keep winning matches with it.... obviously it’s the gun, there’s no other explanation!

Jim’s making his own Ketland locks for the SMR now too, and after using his Colonial lock I know it’ll be a top quality piece.

You’re gonna enjoy building yours, but beware- they are incredibly fun to shoot!!
