If any of you have been following my previous posts, you know that I really want a T/C Hawken.

Well, tonight the wife and I took a ride down to Cabela's in Hamburg, PA and they just got a shipment of the Cabela's Hawken flinklock rifles.

I had a card with me to get a discount and with the reward credits on my Cabela's card, I could have walked out of there with one for $402 + tax.

I know... I know... But I would've left myself wondering if I should have gotten a T/C instead so I passed it up.

Wise choice in my opinion...get a TC or better yet keep your eyes peeled for a Sharon or a Green River Hawken.

I think I paid less than $250 for each (one flint- one percussion ) of my cabelo's hawkins many years ago. I find they are good guns for the money. But I also prefer T.C.'s.I bought my T.C at a rendezvous for $150 :hmm:

We live in an in-line era where the trad style guns get no respect from many of their owners. Result is that many get cheap sold. Keep your eyes open! :)

I once picked up a green river rifle works leman in Caribou Maine. It was mixed in with a cva and a tc. I took it home for 175.00 beat him down from 200.00. It pays to know what you are looking at. It doesn't pay owning a gun shop and not caring about sidelocks. The shop is out of business now no surprise.

Our local gun shop knows nothing about conventional muzzle loaders and I have bought several and resold them at a good profit! :hmm:

I've actually heard nothing but good things about them. I pick one up myself at Hamburg. Didn't get to try it yet but It seem like a nice gun.

Hello Guys, My first smokepole wasa Cabelas 50 cal. Hawkins great gun!!! I have TC 50 cal Hawkins which is also a great gun, for the price I would go with the Cabelas for sure, right now I'm using a Pedersolli 50 cal PA long rifle (bought at Cabelas) which is by far my favorite!!

If one were to pay the new retail price for a T/C of over $750 that has to be the very worst firearms investment one could make considering what they sell for as used guns. We accept that buying a new car guarantees an immediate loss of 30% before we leave the lot, but a loss of 60-75% on a new gun?

Keep looking you will find one. I got my TC a Cougar out of a trunk at a local gun range for 225 it was a 99% rifle. It now has a Flintlock and barrel for it also for less than you were quoted for the Cabelas. They are out there also go a Lyman Trade rifle (new) $180 so keep looking until you get what you want.

I have two (2) Cabela's Hawkens, and they both shoot clover leafs. I paid $100 each for them in Cabela's bargain basement, did a little repair on the stock at the breech, and voila! two accurate elk rifles.
I have never tried prb's in them, but with Hornady Great Plains bullets, they are deadly!
Hmm, I think I'll try prb's this spring.
