I have aquired a Kentucky Percussion Pistol in 45 cal. This pistol does not have a barrel tenon wedge to remove the barrel for cleaning. You have to remove two small screws from the nose cap and remove the nose cap to get the barrel off. This is a feature I do not care for but is the way they did it back then.

I have that gun too. I killed a rabbit with it once.

I would like to sight it in better, but I never seem to take the time to as I don't take it hunting all that often. But I like the gun and I think you will too.

Sounds like a CVA maybe. I have two and they are both good shooters. One and a half inch groups from a rest at 40 feet. Keep working with it and you will be very satisfied with its performance.

I have one of those also. It is a pretty good shooter. In answer to your question... I don't think that was the customary way the barrels were mounted. I could be wrong, but I sure wouldn't do it like that. I never cared for that feature. :idunno:

The Pedersoli Kentucky pistol also uses this method of retaining the barrel.

A few owners of the Pedersoli Kentucky found out the hard way that loading hot powder loads was a poor idea.

The wooden projection from the front of the stock sheared off due to the barrels recoil.

When I used my Pedersoli Kentucky barrel and lock to build this pistol I soldered a underlug to the bottom flat of the barrel so I could pin the barrel in place.
The front pin is in the center of the star inlay.
