I got her probably half completed today, we have had a pretty bad ground blizzard all day. Perfect snow day project. I did have to drive in some risky conditions to get the gun but worth it! I suspect she’ll be killing pheasants and partridge by next week.

It’s coming together well, I put the French red stain on, which makes it look super dark but a lot of it will come off in the next steps.

This is right after applying the French red filler. It doesn’t look anything like that now lol. It’s much lighter, I did knock it back a bit to give it a used look but only a few years old. I’m on my third truoil application, now. I’m probably not going to sand it back from here on just apply a little oil and burnish back. I will put on one or two more coats and call it good. Polishing the metal is very time consuming because I’m missing a small half round file and all my jeweler’s files are worn out so I’m doing a lot more sanding. I scraped the buttplate then sanded a little and went over it with a grey 3m pad. That will be my final “polish” for all metal parts. I’ll try to get a good picture in the morning before I put another coat of oil on. In the future I might put two coats of French red on , one then sand back and another. I also shouldn’t have knocked Back the filler with the 3m pad as it took some filler out of the pores, should have used fine sand paper. The 3m pads will also grab sharp corners on the inlets and pull splinters of wood out so , probably not a good idea but at least should be very careful. Live and learn.

I bought a fullstock percussion rifle from a guy in Oregon. Sent money, he shipped, gave me tracking number. After a few days, track number got stuck on same location for a week. Sender's postmaster tried to find the 5-foot long box, nothing. A month later, we gave up, he refunded my money. Then two months later, it showed up on my front porch, box all beat to hell but rifle perfect. So I called the guy, sent payment again. Where was it for 3 months? we will never know

I had some parts ordered from a place in NH that did the same thing recently. There was a warning early on that some winter weather had caused issues, but that was only showing for a day or two. Anyhow, it said NH for a day, then in transit for 7-8days, then boom it was in Oshkosh on a Sunday and Delivered to me in Appleton on Monday.
I try not to get hung up watching tracking, but sometimes curiosity gets the best of me.
postal gorillas made full court pass n hit wrong basket, what do we expect they are goovment union workers. I('ve got a rifle sitting in Indy for over a week. they need to finish christmas cookie boxes crumbs n coffee. haha wont need it to sight in till before 25 deer season.
