Placed order today for my SMR. It is my retirement present to myself. I decided on standard maple for the stock. I really like the pictures of the one Jim did on his website in dead plain maple with bone black. Here is a picture of Jims's example

I hope to replicate with my own touches It represents to me what a common folk would have carried back in the day. Nothing fancy just a tool for everyday use. I got it in .40 cal. Smallest legal caliber for deer in Missouri and not to big for small game. More than likely the project will have to wait a bit as I'm getting a new right knee in two weeks and navigating the basement stairs to my work area might be a bit down the road. More to follow!
