Kibler Woodsrunner completed and field tested.

I'm new to muzzleloaders in general. I got tired of trying to harvest a deer with my crossbow during the Pennsylvania late flintlock season timeframe. After a couple years of dragging my feet, I finally decided on a Kibler Woodsrunner Kit this past August. The build was pretty straight forward with the help of Jim Kibler's youtube videos. I went with a standard Maple stock in .50cal. No extra bells or whistles. I fully intended on climbing mountains with this gun. Thick brush and poor weather. Wanted something reliable. I had a few minor hiccups here and there during the build, but overall I'm very pleased with the finished product and I learned so much along the way. I was fortunate enough to harvest a doe with this firearm on the first Saturday after Christmas. The rifle is very comfortable to carry around the woods and shoots great. It was a good buy and a very fun project.

Kibler's videos recommend using iron nitrate and Permalyn Sealer. I ended up using iron nitrate and then Helmsman spar varnish to seal it. I wish I would have spent more time sanding back some of the iron nitrate in key locations to simulate wear points better, but this was my first build and I was overly cautious. I was also unfortunately rushing to get it done, as I wanted to use it in the mid-October early muzzleloader period here in PA.

Nice job on the Woodsrunner it turned out great. Plain maple is underrated, I prefer the look of it to all the striped dazzling fancy stuff. Congrats on the big doe, to do a great job on the kit like you did then go get a deer with it is a nice accomplishment!

Post some pics when you get it done. I would love to see them. The iron nitrate seems to bring out any faint curl that is present. I think you'll be surprised.
