here is one in cherry, believe it or not, that i just finished up this morning. it is in 40cal. i fire blued all the iron. the photos are lacking in how good it looks. i my sell it, i haven't made my mind up yet.

well, the wood i used LMF maple 2 coats, then LMF nut brown two coats. then 4 coats of chambers buffed back between coats with 0000 wool. then two coats of a natural varnish that was used in the renaissance, the metal was fire blued with heat only. the barrel was lightly fire blued with cold blue on top,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
 
Fire bluing, are you just getting to that color and taking the heat away? Or do you go above that heat range and it settles back? No concern about metal integrity on parts like the cock?

Just curious cuz I've never done it.
no i have no concerns, i am not getting things that hot. i completely dissembled the lock, i did not put any heat at all on the frizzen/hammer, i cold blued that part.
