I would like to build a flintlock 'kit gun'. What is usually entailed in building say a GPR kit or a Traditions kit? I'm not ready to build a complete gun from the ground up so to speak. But a basic assembly and finishing kit would be fine.

The GPR kit looks pretty easy, and it does resemble an original rifle. Are you interested in Living History, or do you just want to hunt and target shoot?

I would like an "in the spirit gun" as opposed to a generic sidelock. Does not have to be patterned exactly after a specific known maker but should reflect some sort of known period. I'm leaning towards a Lyman as they tend to generally be more PC (I'm aware that the Lymans are not TRUE period correct guns in any sense of the phrase). This would be in contrast to T/C's Hawken kits. Though I'm sure the quality is fine and I do like the overall looks they are further away from what I'm looking for then the Lymans. Same goes for most of the Traditions kits. I'm simply not capable of building a TOW so called kit. At least not at this point. Though I am fond of one of their 'trade gun' kits. Heck just one month ago I bought and fired my first BP gun, now look I'm hooked and wanting to build one! :hmm:

The 'Trade' and 'Early English' guns are kinda what I'm looking for. Outside my price range when in the white but I'm considering them anyhow. Thanks a lot for the link!
