Hi all,

I been thinking about getting into black powder shooting and when I'm browsing thrift stores and 2nd hand shops I keep a eye out for items that I might be able to use.

So far I found a nice horn and this knife.

The blade measure 8.5", overall length is 13.5"

The buck picture was taken last week, got uploaded with the knife pictures.

Handle is antler.

No maker marks, any guesses as to age and maker?

If it is not to old, I was thinking of shortening the blade some and maybe try to make a sheath for it.

Thanks
Jim

It appears to be a knife from a common meat carving/serving set - like you would use with the holiday turkey at the formal table setting. It usually came with a matching fork to complete the set. It is probably from the early to mid 1900's.

With a little careful reshaping, they can be made into a good utility hunting/camp knife. I like them for their thin and flexible blade.

Good luck on your project.

Just my humble thoughts to share. Take them as such.

I've reworked a few like that. the thin blade makes an excellent little camp/chore knife. I've even filleted crappie with a knife like that. Very versatile blade.
