I have an "antique belt type knife" that was my Dad's but it has no sheath. The blade is a bit curved and a fair amount of edge has been removed from years of use.sharpening. Nothing special but sentimental to me. Based on imagery I believe it is an older "Montgomery Ward" hunt/camp knife. Does anyone make custom sheaths on the forum or can anyone point me in the direction of such a craftsman?

Would you be willing to post any pics? Sounds like a pretty cool old knife. And would you be willing to send the knife to a sheath maker? I do quite a bit of sheaths for knives, hatchet, folding saws and such. But I always require the item in hand to guarantee fit for custom work. Also, what style of sheath are you looking for?

I do not have ability to upload images. This one is very similar. (Copy/paste from internet) I am not opposed to send to a sheath maker. As to style I am not familiar with options. Mostly looking for a belt sheath that fits the knife. A molded appearance would be a plus. The sheath that came with the knife is for a straight blade implement and the knife tip pokes out the bottom side of the sheath due to the slight curve of the blade. The blade on mine is a bit worn away from repetitive sharpening. The hilt is stamped "Ward Quality" and there is a patent number that leads to a company called Western Cutlery. I have no clue where my dad got this. He passed in 1991 and I found this when cleaning out my mom's house after she passed in 2004.

The last custom sheath I made was for a knife very similar to this one. It was a standard belt sheath and turned out pretty decent. The customer drew a picture of what he wanted so that's what I did. Later, when I have a bit more time, I'll try to post some pictures of that one and maybe another option or two.

Western Cutlery made some good knives. That’s a nice one there👍👍

Here is a couple pics of the one I mentioned earlier. The guy gave me a crude drawing and said to make it like this. Said he also wanted it to look a little aged to match the knife. Most sheaths I make are the mountain man style or just a simple fold over design with a pinned and stitched belt loop. All my work is double hand stitched with high tensile artificial sinew.

Here is the fold over design. I do this sheath for various folding saws, large folding knives, and the occasional fixed blade as long is the hilt isn't too long. I like it because it is incredibly durable and wears nice and the item it holds is very easy to remove and put back.. I don't have any pictures of the mountain man sheaths. But I can probably go out to my shop and find one to take a picture of. Don't know why but I hardly ever take pictures of my work. Usually have already shipped it before it crosses my mind. Let me know if you want more info and I will PM you some prices if interested.

I do leather sheaths for belt knives. I usually do fold-over sheaths with veg-tanned leather, but have done a couple pouch-style sheaths based on Plains Indian designs favored by white trappers in the early 19th century. I can do light tooling (stamping) or leave it plain. See pictures, below. To get a proper fit, any sheath-maker will at the very least need at least an accurate tracing of the knife on paper, If the knife can be mailed to me, I can wet-mold the sheath to it, ensuring a nice, tight fit. Send a PM if you're interested and we can talk. I lost my dad a few months back and can appreciate why this is important to you.
