I have used brine with 1095 fire strikers with great success, but I don't have the kahounas to try a knife blade. Hardness charts for 10XX steels are almost always rated by a brine quench, but knife blades are much thinner than the test plates used used to get the hardness rates. With 01, basicly the same amount of carbon as 1095, but loaded with abrasion resistant and carbide forming alloys, I can take a blade to its final dimensions and heat treat with no worry of cracking at all. 01 just costs a lot more. When it comes to maybe losing a blade that I may have hours of work in, I am a coward. I admire your courage. The 10XX steels make a super good knife when brine quenched, but I would just rather go with minimal risk. If you don't mind, what, or about what, is the steel temp when it goes into the brine? Here's to you, seriously! You must have a set! :hatsoff: :hatsoff:
