A gunsmith could easily bend it with heat and get it aligned.

They said it was impossible to repair because the Bedford County lock they copied had that exact same fault!!!!!!

Well...I guess they did a good job of building it to spec then, didn't they! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

L&R say they don't change things? I presently have 4 L&R locks. Three of them are close to 30 years old and when i had to replace sear in my Old English lock and the tumbler in my Manton lock, I needed to change the sear, tumbler and main spring in the Old English. The Manton lock required a new tumbler and bridle. All of the new parts were needed due to improvements in internal lock geometry.

Installation went well for the English lock aftwr I adjustrd the length of the sear arm to properly fit the lock mortise. I expexted that. The Manton lock suffered from tolerance build up issues as the new tumbler and specicfically the new bridle didn't line up. I was was able to turn the bearing shaft down and use the old bridle.

Internal parts do change. The old forged springs have been updated to cast springs. Bearing surfaces may have been enlarged. Lock plates were nearly the same.

To get back to the original question of my opinion of my L&R locks is that they are good sparkers. I was able to get replacement psrts on 30 year old locks and keep my guns shooting.

I have used two large Silers and two L&R Classic flintlocks on the rifles I have built. I find no difference between them in terms of quality and function. All four locks have been completely trouble free and provide fast ignition. However, it seems flints last a little longer in the L&Rs.

Rather than go into a rant..... I will say if you gave... me one I would hand it back & say No Thanks. Buy a Chambers lock, you will be glad you did. Best lock on the market for a production lock and a Lifetime Warranty on it, parts & labor.

do you think l&r are poor quality now. I bought in the 70s and liked it. Since they were sold do you think they are poorer now...why... do people agree with you. Will be making a build next year I've myself have had good locks from everyone I bought from.
