the stock like thing in my basement is looking more like a gun and less like an overorganized two- by- four with each pass of the chisel. Soon (ha ha) i will be in a position to start attaching all the metal gizmoes to it, but in the interim, does anyone have any ideas as to stain?

thanks for any and all suggestions (except to go @#$% myself - i've been told that at work a zillion times).

I'm building a kit gun and others have suggested Laurel Mountain Forge stain. This if for my Maple stock. They have different shades. I ordered the Cherry. Hopefully it will look as good as I've been told.

Is lacewood the same as sycamore?

Sycamore is a related to maple. There are two Lacewoods. One is a tropical hardwood from Australia, and the other is quarter sawed planks of the european plane tree which is sometimes called sycamore but is an entirely different species.
