The Log Cabin Shop sells this one in brass, does any one make a steel one?

The gun is all browned steel and a steel buttplate would look better than a brass one.

I like the size and shape, 5 1/4 x 2. It will work well on my new underhammer stock. 73cal with heavy loads, I want a big buttplate, but not a huge ugly one.

Any suggestions on another style that has the same shape and easy to fit, in steel?

I bought this on in brass from the log cabin shop to use on my brass trimmed barrel.

Now for my question: Screw location and sizes. I have seen many top screws, but is there any standard location for the rear screw?

Thanks,
BS

But, not too close to the bottom.
I would hold the screw, perpendicular to the back of the butt plate and see where its tip will be, relative to the underside of the stock.

I've seen old rifles which cracked down at the toe because the lower butt plate screw was too close to the bottom of the stock.
These big screws put a lot of stress in the wood, even if you pre-drill for them so I try to keep them at least 5/8 from the bottom. More is better.

With the 3/5s method, there will be lots of wood, but I will check and make sure, just in case!

Thanks for the info.
