Laser boore sighting?

I have a newly built rifle I haven't sighted it in yet. I would love to hear about using a laser sighting tool to "bore sight" it.

For me it's kind of like putting a jet engine on a crop duster. I enjoy the process of shooting and sight in too much to have ever tried. I have a laser bore sighter sitting on the bench, but haven't ever used it with a muzzleloader.

I've never bore-sighted a rifle iron sights.

Scoped guns, sure...but not iron sights.

How do you propose to do this and what result are you trying to attain?

I have done it on several guns with iron sights it works great also used it on my fowler with no rear sight it helped me correct my hold :thumbsup:

I know they use lasers on handguns while dry firing to correct bad shooting habits. Same could apply to long guns.

So, I take it you bore sight iron sights the same as a scope only ensure your back and front sights are lined up with each other and the dot.

The lasers that I'm familiar with fit into the gun's breach. So, how do they work with a muzzleloader?

Bushnell, LaserLyte, Site-Lite, and others make ones with arbors that are placed in the muzzle.

I have the Bushnell universal that's used for the CF guns, mounting scopes, as an aid to set up the chrony,,,,
I haven't used it for my Ml's, even with "new to me guns" you can usually get on paper at 25yrds and adjust from there.
Dig around here or on the net and there's simple math that can be used to get sights close before you shoot it.

I'm also curious why one would use the laser bore sight for iron sights.

I've been shooting iron sights for years and, as necchi, I've never considered bore sighting them. But, if I'm missing something I would like to know.

I guess for me the reason one would use a bore sighter for iron sights is that it takes vary little time to sight your gun dead on :idunno:

I re-read that thread and Dutch's site and I only found one reference to a laser bore sighter and it was by a member here. Don't know if he's shooting sights or scope. Maybe he'll trip over this string and chime in.

I have a universal laser bore sight. It MIGHT work with a primitive BP rifle. Although you have to take into consideration that the BP rifle has ALOT more variables than the CF rife does. I have never tried to " zero" in any of my M'lers using this method...Now my Ruger 10/22 is another story.
