So my dad wanted a new shooting bag. Gave me his ideas/ wants and came up with this:

Bag is about 8.5" wide by 7 tall.

Double pouch style, one of my favorites.

Bag is Buffalo with Elk for the flap lining/ symbol on flap. The D rings are hand forged (if a propane torch, thick wire stock and a vise is hand forged ) I am still finishing the strap. I'll post an update when I complete it.

So, what do ye think? Good, bad, suggestions?
Thanks for looking.

Goldhunter...
Nice job, your dad will be proud.

I wouldn't mind a copy of your pattern if you were so inclined to share????

Its really nice!

Beautiful!! :hatsoff:
Just one little suggestion--keep up the good work.

Beautiful. Reminds me of an old James Brown song, "Papa's got a brand new Bag". Dad is really lucky.

Good looking bag for sure - you and your father can be proud

Pretty easy, just traced the pattern on the front flap and cut it out with an exacto knife. The Elk leather that shows through the flap and makes up the cross actually covers the entire underside of the flap. This not only gives a contrasting color for the cross but also stiffens up the flap. Then I just stitched on the edge binding to cover up the two different leathers on the edge.

Stitching around the cross also helps hold the ridgedness of the flap and helps accent it, sort of frames it.

i have made many bag for sale at our events and untill you have actually cut the pattern stiched all the seams and all the other little details no one can imigine the work that is involved and a double with inlay cut out is one of the hardest to make and i can tell you from experience that i would be very proud to own this bag on a scale of 1-10 i would rate this a 15

Thank you, I appreciate it. This one has been the most time intensive one I've made. That edge binding is a real bugger.

Very nice bag. I am thinking of making myself a new pouch out of elk. I wasn't quite sure how to do a double pouch myself.

Good job stitching! Double bags are hard to keep aligned throughout the hand stitching process, and the symetry you have there speaks for itself.

As someone who has made a few bags, I can say that you do nice work. I would suggest heavier gauge rings to suspend the strap from, but otherwise, very nice.

Very nice bags to all, i especially like the ones with the sheaths for the axe and knives. I bought one of those flintlock holster, and plan to stitch it to the bag to hold my peice while i am busy with my primary rifle. My only fear is that it will pull the front of the bag, which is why im guessing you have yours all on the back. Dunno how much i want my pistol against my body though :hmm: maybe it would work on the side?
