I am looking for a dark brown for a plain maple stock. Which of the Laurel Mt. stains would give the best results? I have tried the Birchwood Casey walnut before and always seemed to end up yellowish, lighter color than I wanted. Thanks for any help.

Trot,
I have a shelf full of LMS looking for that real dark brown color. Good stain it just isn't dark enough for my taste. My suggestion is to try some Danglers dark brown. I've had better results with that for a real dark stain. You may also want to try some Fiebing's Leather dye. They have some real dark colors. Experiment before using though.

Not sure how dark you want, but I really like the Nut Brown stain. Couple of coats is pretty dark.

The American Walnut is / can be very brown to light brown on maple. I cut it 4 to 1 with thinner to get a medium brown. Since it is a true penetrating stain, it gets darker with more coats. Used unthinned I think it is actually too dark for my taste. I would buy it with the thinner and work your way back to straight up.
