I'm cheating, I'm using an old search engine, Poor Richards Almanac.........

Can your or someone else explain to me how a "lean pee" is different than any other ordinary canvas tarp, erected with any other sort of pole(s) or a tripod

Sure, it's not a tarp, it's sewn to take only one form, and you can have a pole inside or a couple outside.... and most importantly, some events specifically prohibit them. The same difference between setting up a frame, with an overhead piece of canvas, and tying on canvas sides in the shape of a Baker Tent vs. the banning of the Baker Tent (as the sides are sewn in).

Remember you asked for an explanation, as opposed to a justification for the prohibition at some events.

Truthfully, I couldn't care less what is allowed/prohibited "at some events". - I'm just confused by the various descriptions of "lean pees" on this thread.

I have poster pictures of my tarp twice but they keep getting taken out when they reformat my thread.

Here is my Lean Pee with no sticks.

I asked my mom about it since she use to use it at rendezvous for about 10 years before they got a nice wall tent.

She said I don't have the poles/sticks for it but I need two long sticks that start at both back corners and come to the front center.

I then need a long stick that goes from back center to front center and it goes under the other two sticks.

I then put a stick/pole at the front to hold them all up or cross a couple of sticks to hold it up.

I am thinking of just using ropes instead of poles and tying them to the front pole and then use guy outs to pull on the front pole to hold it all up.

Do you think it will work?

The tent as I stand at the right front corner.

Front left of the tent.

Front of the tent. It is 12x12.

whenever I get something new the first thing I do is throw away the instructions. :haha:

At some point you just have to start setting it up and experiment with it.
once it starts to take shape you should be able to figure it out better.

why do you not want to set it up with the poles on the inside?

I have one that we set up as pictured in book buckskining. 6 poles and a small fire inside as like a tool. Works for me

Yes,
You'll need something on top of the pole to keep the tent's ties to the top of the pole,, like a forked pole,(?) or a whittled notch or a peg or something,,

Now I'm confused, too. - Can your or someone else explain to me how a "lean pee" is different than any other ordinary canvas tarp, erected with any other sort of pole(s) or a tripod???

yours, satx

Bingo! Nail has been hit on head. But, just because it makes perfect sense that someone, at some period of time, would have done just that is not 'proof' or 'documentation' enough for some people who are self-appointed eekspurts on the subject. And, those same people usually will not accept your documenation if you have it because it doesn not meet their standards.

You certainly may be correct. - Nonetheless, I'm STILL "confused" as to what a "lean pee" is, given the different descriptions from our members.
