leather punch

if i need a leather punch,i normally take a 16 penny nail and cut off the point. lay the leather i want to punch on a flat piece of very hard wood puy the blunt end of the nail where you want a hole.tap with hammer just hard enough to punch through the leather not to drive the nail into the wood.ive done this for years on belts shoes anything that needs a hole. differant size holes youse differant size nails... :blue: :grey: :redthumb: :front:

wal-mart has one of them hole punchers that look like a pair of pliers with a star wheel on it fer different size holes....it's in the craft section...........bob

When you are in a bind, a percussion rifle will double as a leather punch...

First, make sure the gun is empty then put in an old nipple (something you don't mind getting pluged), cock the hammer, align the leather and pull the trigger...

I often use a drill press. I get my pieces lined up and put a few tacks into the work to hold it all together. I then drill a new sharp bit through all of the pieces together for a good hole that is lined up. I can even leave the tacks in place to keep the pieces togehter as I begin stitching.

The Natives (North America) used a ground beaver tooth hafted into wood. Also used knapped chert, turkey and deer ulna bones. If you are PC to the bone- tooth- whatever. :m2c:

Yeah, there are many ways to punch a hole in a piece of leather.

But, I just recently found out the leather shops sell hole punches, multiple hole punches, with one strike of the hammer.

I bought two of the four hole punches, different sizes. Are they ever nice for getting the other holes lined up.

I use a drill bit in my Dremel tool. Can drill through multiply layers with ease. Easy to handle too!

My buddy does this as well. He made a good cartridge box this way, but I still like the drill press as it is faster. I line up a piece of wood to set the distance from the edge and then it is a simple matter of getting the stitch distance lined up which can go quite quickly.
