I've been buying my leather supplies from the local tandy store and it's satisfactory when I can get the weight I want but seems a bit pricey. OTOH, maybe I'm just agnorant of what leather does and should cost so set me straight if that's the case.

Was wondering if there are any good mail order sources for leather that have proven to be reliable and delivery what they promise!

I totally agree. I have bought leather from Distant Drums on eBay and found they have good prices.

Tandy has 3 pricing levels. Retail, Club, and Business. You definitely want to buy at the business price it's a third to half of retail on most stuff. Leather is still pricey. You just have to go in often to find the right item. I've got full hides I've had for 4 years or longer and haven't touched yet.

Thanks guys, the leather guy site looks promising and I'm going to look at Distant Drums the next time I log onto Ebay.

I knew about the retail/club arrangement at Tandy but didn't know about the "business" level! Going to look into that.

Thanks again to all who provided info.

This isn't retail, but I have a friend that had a leather sofa that was water soaked...trashed. I cut 2/3 of the leather off it, all I could reach in the dumpster and the leather seems to be a nice weight for shooting/possible bags, etc. Got 3 cushion covers, one end and a 7ft X 3ft piece off the back. Price was right too.

When I buy at business level I still pay taxes. They always ask for your phone number when you check out. Give them your business name as well to start buying right. It doesn't have to be leather related. Your business can be a hobby. The states are very liberal on hobby businesses. You don't need a tax number.
