This week i got out and shot some my of 200gr bullets in my 58 Remington first i tried 25gr fff Gotex Wonder Wad and Lee bullet. That did not shoot very well. Then i tried 25gr fff Gotex Lee bullet and Crisco over the bullet shot better. Next i tried same as above but with 20gr fff Gotex both loads shot better and the load with out the wad was very accurate. Has any one tried fillers with Lee bullets? How do you guys load bullets in your cap and ball revolvers?

Mike

I have a '58 Pietta. I use a 7.62X39 case as a powder measure (about 32 grs 3F) a felt atop powder and then a lubed Lee mold conical bullet. shoots good for me.

Hey Mike...its spelled GOEX...not Gotex,,,,...
....I dont even wanna say what Gotex
reminds me of :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
you can always preview your post and correct yer spellin....I gotta do that all the time

What do you lube the Lee bullets with? These were the first bullets i ever cast i enjoyed casting them.

Mike

scalper next you are going to tell me kat is spelled cat. But don't worry i won't fall for that one.

I dip warm slugs in a warm, liquid mixture of grease and wax, then set them on wax paper to cool. takes some time but eliminates grease atop the slugs. seems they press in easier too. I have put a dab of grease on the felts after I get them in the chamber but it takes more time than the 'dip' method.
If you use soft lead for your slugs you might try a stiff powder charge. the slugs may 'obturate' - that is expand from the pressure better to take the rifleing.

Thanks i will give that a try and i won't put any grease on top of the bullet.

I forgot to say I use an inexpensive set of large medical tweezers to grab the slugs when dipping, it takes just a few seconds for each one when you get set up fot it. melt the lube (in seperate metal container)and heat the slugs on a cast iron pan or piece of steel plate. you probably get the idea. or might develop your own method.

I don't have any bee's wax what do you think about Crisco and candle wax? It worked good to flux the lead when i was casting.

Mike

melt the mix down and stir - use some sort of metal container. I have a small container that has a slip on lid, a little larger than a shoe polish can. heat the slugs up or too much solution will stick to them. a little tricky but feel your way through a few and you should get spot-on. since you have enough gumption to cast slugs I doubt you will have any trouble with lube.
good smoke!
