Heck, I'd just clean it up and use Blue out of the Bottle...it's a part that gets exposed to fire and brimstone, or you could remove all and any finish to make the pistol look like an antique! I've done both.
 
It all depends on what you want to end up with. Do you want the look of an antique-ish looking gun or an almost new looking gun?
Most if not all of the cold-blue solutions will wear away quickly and leave you with a splotchy gray look. Doing a rust blue job will look more authentic and last much longer. A hot caustic blue will look like a new cylinder.
