If you were a reall shooter back in the day you would have to buy the same paper cartridge brand every time as the wild range of different loads would not be ideal for any kind of consistant accuracy. It must have sucked if you were issued different ammo all the time.
 
that's a pretty good list up thread. Cant' Imagin M855 coming in with 5 different bullet weights.. Makes me wonder if there possibly were not many actual good pistol shots in that army. Also may explain why some cavalrymen preferred loose powder and RB for their revolvers.
