I was looking through an old edition of Dixie Gun Works, and came across a Whitworth rifle.

While I cannot get one now, I would like to own one in the future.

Though, I must wonder, are there any left handed Whitworths?

Thanks!

Jason

While stranger things have happened, I very seriously doubt that you'll find a left-handed Whitworth or any other make of military muzzleloader. The only option I can think of is getting a Whitworth barrel and having it re-breeched for a left handed bolster and having the lock and stock made from scratch, in other words, a custom gun. You could maybe find someone to do it, but expect a premium price, if you can find a barrel.

No, there are no left handed Whitworths.

But the good news is you can buy brand new Whitworth barrels from one English firm (I don't recall the firm's name). The barrel bands, breechplug, sights, ramrod, trigger guard, trigger and buttplate won't know the difference. What you will have to find is a lock and a Siler gunmaker's lockplate can be adapted to fit the Enfield profile. With a bit of engraving, you can even have the crown on it. Once you have all the parts, if you can't assemble them yourself, find a gunsmith who will.
