WE all know that the hunt is the fun, and the processing is the work. I found out long ago that once you start processing and packaging, you get a fairly large pile of scrap. That pile will have fat, and connective tissue, and inedible meat and meat scraps. For years, I threw that scrap pile away. Years ago, it occured to me that that scrap pile was a valuable pile. I sorta mixed it all up and scooped it into the grinder and ground it into scrap burger. I took that scrap burger and pattied it and froze it. When my Husky needed a treat then all I had to do was go to the freezer and get one of those scrap patties, and throw it out to Kenai. To him, it was like a fresh meat popsicle. The blood and sinew and fat just added to his chewing enjoyment.

Anyone else make dog treats with their scraps?

We collect all the bones and break the big ones, then add them to the trimmings in a large pot and cover with water. Add all your saved vegetable peels and scraps, and allow to simmer all day.

Then we pull out the (now white) bones and freeze them for the dogs. The remainder we can in pint jars and add that to the dog's food all winter.

Talk about a bunch of happy critters!

Around our house the only thing that doesn't get eaten by something somewhere is the squeel, and that's cause it's too thin to taste.

Always, saw the ribs and leg bones into short lengths and give them to the dogs for treats.
The sinew goes in the bird feeders for the birds.
"Waste not want not"
