I am beginning a Leman half-stock flintlock precarved rifle project and was wondering about what type of nose cap to use. I have a steel plains rifle nose cap and a brass grooved nose cap. I was thinking that the brass nose could easily be shortened to about an inch. I could also possibly pour a pewter nose cap. I was thinking that early Leman's were probably brass. Any ideas?

Leman built so many different styles of rifles that just about anything you choose is possible. Below are some samples of some Leman half stock rifles (IIRC one or two of these may not be Lemans). Some of these may have been originally made as half stocks and others have apparently been cut back from full stocks. At least one and maybe two have brass nose caps. The others are probably pewter.
These next rifles are from my collection. The top is an original Leman squirrel rifle and the bottom is one of Jack Brooks' Leman trade rifles.
The squirrel rifle shows evidence that it was originally a full stock and the barrel has been shortened. The original muzzle cap was repurposed as the nose cap.
The nose cap on the squirrel rifle is a scaled down version of the muzzle cap on the Jack Brooks Leman.
When it comes to Leman, you have a lot of degrees of freedom.
