Ride Red........There isn't a lot of hard and fast rules in the m/l gun use as there is in ctg. guns. In m/l's , there are several different rifling twists and types , barrel lengths , calibers , big and small. In ctg. guns , any monkey can look in a 1950's era Lyman loading manual , and the best loads and powders are listed to make those guns shoot very well. Muzzleloading rifles , and smooth bores , have general suggested guidelines, which at first , can be baffling to cartridge folks. Find a knowledgeable m/l black powder shooter , and he might set you on the right path. Custom m/l longrifles are pretty straight forward , where as the many , and various factory made m/l guns , can be vexing to a guy like me , that has shot only custom flint long rifles , Jagers , and hybrids of both for 50+ yrs.. When you get the gist of black powder m/l rifles , the entertainment is endless. Patients, practice , and a little help, will get you where you need to be. I to was an avid ctg. rifle guy , but have little interest in them now. .........oldwood
