A few years ago, I built a LH Virginia style rifle, 42", 40 caliber Rice barrel. It's fitted for large Siler locks, cap and flint. The problem I'm having is with the cap lock the hammer loosens the drum after several rounds.

Since I have both locks if I can find a LH threaded drum, I'm considering building another rifle. Install the flintlock on my current rifle and build the new one around the cap lock.

Does anyone know if anyone makes drums with LH threads?

Thanks, Justin

BTW, I'm retired now and a little bored. LOL

Why not just make sure the threaded hole for the nipple in the drum is on or just below the centerline of drum and square or perpendicular with the hammer? The cap lock hammer will only loosen the drum if the force applied is above the centerline of the drum mounted on the left side of the barrel.

I would think putting a drum in with a left hand thread you are just setting a trap for your heirs or some future owner when they twist the threads off the drum trying to remove it from the barrel. But possibly I’wrong, having never built a left hand gun with drum setup? Maybe some builders of left handed guns will chime in.

It will need to be custom made, I’m sure someone would do it. If you do this, place a slip of paper that says” left hand thread on drum” under the barrel.

I recently ran into a left handed snail type drum on a pistol was marked intercontinental Kentuckian made in Italy. I think that is the only one that ever put that type of threads in. I guess they did not want it to come loose due to hammer blows. I think it was a bad idea.

Thanks guys. My cousin is a retired machinist, I'll see if he can turn me a couple.
