I'm not a smoker but I found this lighter at a friend's antique store earlier today. I had to have it.

Holy smoke Tom! I have its twin right here! Mine doesn't work however. The trigger lifts the hammer but is not connected to the serrated flint striker wheel. Picked it up somewhere maybe 30 years ago for the same reason you did.

Mine sparks well but evidently needs fluid.
